Compassion Camp
Community based summer day camp.
Compassion Camp is a community based summer day camp for children entering K5 – 5th grade. Camp is offered the last two weeks before Shorewood Public Schools begin from 9am – 3pm, Monday – Friday. Children of any faith or no faith are invited to attend this program as content is not religious; however, kids are invited to attend a free Bible Class from 8:30am – 9am with Pastor Jeannine if they choose. Camp is staffed by the Director of Children’s Education and “compassion ambassadors” 7th grade or older. Ambassadors receive a small stipend.
In addition to learning about and practicing compassion, campers meet a “compassion hero” from the community each day. In the past compassion heroes have been representatives from Milwaukee Youth Theatre, Shorewood Waters Project, Schlitz Audubon Nature Center and Southeastern Wisconsin Therapy Dog Association.
Enrollment for children and applications for youth ambassadors will begin in April. Youth ambassadors will be hired according to how many campers enroll to maintain a 1:6 ratio.
